| Subject: Gears 3 to be 'noob' friendly? Tue 26 Jul 2011, 09:06 | |
| From OXM website: Gears of War 3 is all about the three "As" - Action, Accessibility and, um, Adding Cool Stuff. We've covered parts one and three in our beta multiplayer and Horde Mode 2.0 write-ups; now it's time for the central pillar, the ever controversial matter of making a game pick-up-and-playable.
Speaking at ComicCon in San Diego this week, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson unveiled a raft of new casual-leaning gameplay features. For starters, you can earn every unlock in the game just by playing the campaign. No need to get your arse handed to you on the point of a Digger grenade in multiplayer, then, if you want to nab a fancy Lancer reskin.
There's also a new casual area on the playlist, though under the "Reverse VIP" system, you won't be able to get access if you've clocked up a conspicuous amount of time on Gears 1 and 2. The game has a look at your gamerscore before opening the door, see, denying entry to the prodigiously skilled so the noobs can stumble around in peace. It's sort of like a witness protection scheme.
Finally, Epic has built in a new auto-aim setting. We're guessing tougher playlists will oblige you to toggle it off.
While long-in-the-tooth Gearsites will doubtless turn their noses up at all this, we're not detecting anything that could throw proceedings out of whack for experienced players. What do you think? Personally, I welcome this, because I can't hit a barn door with a shovel in Gears, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of moaning from the hardcore Gears fanboys... | |
